The charcoal grill does require initial assembly. All parts provided are clearly described in the included manual for easy and quick installation. Once assembled, the product can be easily stored and secured with the 3 lid-clamps.
Use charcoal only to fuel your grill. This may be in the form of lump charcoal, briquettes, hardwood charcoal briquettes, or a combination. As a guide, lump charcoal (irregular pieces) are best for foods that cook quickly, such as sausages and burgers. Briquettes (uniform pieces) are more suitable for longer grilling or roasting as they burn longer and hotter.
Typically grilling requires between 2 to 5.5 lbs. (1–2.5 kg) of charcoal. The more charcoal that is added, the more intense the heat will be. Less charcoal is required when slow cooking. Do not overfill the Charcoal Grill. Excess charcoal may cause an unexpected fire or cause damage to the grill.
The BBQ Buddy features a dual-ventilation system, with one vent on the Lid and one vent at the base of the Fire Bowl. You can manually adjust these vents to maximize or minimize oxygen flow and therefore adjust the intensity of the heat from the charcoal. To increase temperature for searing, rotate the air vents wide open. To decrease temperature for slow cooking, partially close the vents.
WARNING: The vents and the metal surfaces around them will become very hot during grill use. Use grill mitts or hot pads to adjust vents when the grill is in use.
The charcoal grill is intended for outdoor use only and at least 10 feet away from any flammable materials. Burning charcoal releases toxic fumes. If used indoors or in a poorly ventilated area, the gas can accumulate and cause serious bodily harm.
Yes, so long as the grill is placed outdoors, on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface and at least 10 feet away from flammable materials and/or liquids. Ideal at ground level for picnics or camping, or can be placed at higher levels on solid patio tabletops or barbeque areas.
